THE MYTH

According to Greek mythology, the Three Graces are daughters of Zeus personifying beauty and grace. The trio are popularly depicted in art and sculpture in dynamic dance poses, frequently intertwined.

Raphael's fresco (1517-18) in the Villa Farnesina in Rome continues this tradition of depicting their bodies interacting in a dynamic and fluid way, seemingly "interlocked" with one another.

THE DESIGN STORY

The Three Graces ring reimagines depictions of flowing hair in Renaissance paintings, sculpted like inverted flames to evoke the motif of love aching like a burn. Three articulated lines embody their grace, beauty and charm, while invisible set diamonds accentuate sensual and poetic volume.

THE ARTWORK

Illustrated by Cornwall-based illustrator Caitlin Turner, known for her whimsical and macabre creations that produce an old storybook feel. This rich graphite artwork print depicts the captivating and sensual nature of the Three Graces as they cast their gaze upwards towards Cupid (Eros).

Inspired by Romantic Nationalist illustrators such as the late John Bauer, here they are re-imagined as woodland nymph creatures. Wavy hair tufts are emphasized in a rich, enchanting fashion and their expressions fixate upwards in soft wonder. Signed by the artist, printed on acid-free paper and glassine-wrapped.
